After what has felt like a very long and very hot summer, the notion of autumn is upon us, although we may have to wait a little longer for “mists and mellow fruitfulness”. Nevertheless, the new Church year is upon us, and what a month we have lined up. Indeed we have already started, as Burnham Methodist Church celebrates its 130th anniversary and we joined with perhaps 200 Burnham people to celebrate the combined anniversaries of the church, Burnham WI (100 years), Burnham Community Association (60 years) and Cornerstone (40 years) with a Big Sing celebrating 330 years. Windsor Methodist Church as you know is opening its celebrations for the 150th anniversary with the Town Crier’s call at the Queen Victoria Statue in Windsor at 12noon on the 5th, followed by a church picnic at the top of the Long Walk. On Sunday the 6th, we are having a Macmillan Sunday with donations being taken up at the Breakfast Service and Teatime for the Soul towards the excellent work that they do in support of those of us living with cancer. Then on the evening of the 6th (6pm at High Street) we are launching the four year circuit strategy – do please come and see what it’s all about as Deacon Margaret, Revd Cliff, Revd Pete and I lead an exciting and interactive service as we explore our first year’s theme of Worship and in particular what it means to notice God at work. At the same time, we will be celebrating 30 years since Ken Tuckey was admitted as a local preacher, so lots to give thanks for. Meanwhile Cookham Rise is showing the People’s Emergency Briefing at 7:30 pm on the 24th of September. This important film is created from material that was presented to members of the government and the Prime Minister at COBRA (Cabinet Office Briefing Room A) and is an opportunity to get to grips with the truth of climate change and what it means for our future. And if that all feels a little depressing, don’t miss the opportunity to join us again at Windsor at 6pm on Sunday the 27th of September when we will be finishing the month with another big sing, this time offering our version of a Victorian tent mission. Wound around our harvest celebrations and our prayers for our young people returning to education or joining the world of work, it’s a busy old month!
